What does the P001A Camshaft Profile Control Circuit/Open Bank 1 mean?
The P001A code means the engine computer has detected an open or broken electrical circuit in the camshaft profile control system.
Because of this, the ECM cannot properly control the camshaft profile, which affects engine performance.
What Does Bank 1 Mean?
On engines with more than one cylinder bank, such as V6 or V8 engines, the engine is divided into Bank 1 and Bank 2.

- Bank 1 is the side of the engine that contains cylinder number one.
- Bank 2 is the opposite side.
The P001A code applies only to Bank 1 and “A” indicates Intake camshaft.

When Does the P001A Code Trigger?
The camshaft position sensor measures the position of the camshaft and sends this signal to the ECU. The ECU then sends a pulse command to the Variable Valve Timing (VVT) solenoid to advance or delay the cam position based on the engine load and speed. The VVT solenoid adjusts the cam phaser accordingly.


The camshaft profile control system allows the engine to switch between different camshaft profiles depending on engine speed and load.
This helps:
- Improve low-end torque
- Increase high-RPM power
- Reduce emissions
- Improve fuel efficiency
The ECM sets P001A when:
- It commands the camshaft profile control actuator to operate, but
- Detects no electrical continuity in the circuit
- The fault persists for a set time or drive cycle
